U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton issues statement on Alexander brothers' sex trafficking convictions

Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York | Department of Justice

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said on Mar. 9 that a Manhattan jury found Alon, Oren, and Tal Alexander guilty of multiple federal sex offenses, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. The verdict followed a weekslong trial in which evidence and testimony from eleven victims showed the brothers conspired to lure, drug, and rape young women.

Clayton said the abuse inflicted upon the victims was "disgusting, scarring, and should not be tolerated." He added that prosecutors and law enforcement partners are committed to breaking such conspiracies and bringing perpetrators to justice.

"Today, we take an important step in our fight against sex trafficking," Clayton said. He commended the victims for their courage in testifying at trial: "They bravely overcame the pain of reliving the abuses inflicted upon them and, as a result, prevented others from becoming victims."

Clayton also thanked the jury for their attention and commitment to the judicial system: "The jury saw the Alexander’s conduct for what it was—calculated, brutal sexual abuse that, unimaginably, the defendants celebrated." He acknowledged that while the verdict cannot undo what happened to the victims, it sends a message that New Yorkers want to end sex trafficking in all communities.

He encouraged anyone who has been a victim or suspects federal sex offenses to contact his office or law enforcement partners. Clayton also recognized members of his office's Civil Rights and Human Trafficking Unit as well as colleagues at FBI-NYPD Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force for their work on this case.
