The Federal Aviation Administration announced on Mar. 12 that it is proposing a $172,894 civil penalty against Dentec Avionics of Pretoria, South Africa, for alleged violations of aircraft maintenance regulations.
The FAA said the proposed fine is due to Dentec Avionics performing maintenance on three aircraft without the proper rating and using improper tools on seven aircraft, which included six airplanes and one helicopter. The agency stated that these alleged violations took place between December 2023 and May 2025.
According to the FAA, repair stations must adhere strictly to regulatory requirements regarding both their ratings and the equipment they use when servicing aircraft. The agency’s enforcement actions are intended to ensure safety in aviation operations.
Dentec Avionics has been given 30 days after receiving the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the allegations. The company may contest the findings or seek a resolution with the agency.
The outcome of this case could have implications for other international repair stations working under FAA oversight. Observers will be watching how Dentec Avionics responds and whether further regulatory actions follow.
