Port Charlotte man sentenced to 24 years for producing child sexual abuse material

Tyler Kuhn of Port Charlotte was sentenced on Mar. 13 to 24 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. Kuhn, age 30, pleaded guilty in December 2025 before U.S. District Judge Mary Scriven.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the justice system to address crimes involving the exploitation of children online.

Court documents show that in October 2019, Kuhn engaged in an online conversation with another individual during which he produced a video and image depicting child sexual abuse involving himself and a toddler. He then distributed these materials over the internet to the person with whom he was communicating.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Tampa and Houston Field Offices, and Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel prosecuted the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders, prosecute those who exploit children, and rescue victims.
