Lidl US announced on Mar. 12 a recall of all lots of its Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs – German-Style Nougat, packaged in 3.52 oz boxes with UPC 20304492, because the product contains undeclared hazelnuts. The company said people with hazelnut allergies could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these chocolates.

The recalled products were distributed between Jan. 28 and Mar. 11 to Lidl stores across Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.

No illnesses have been reported so far. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the packaging did not indicate the presence of tree nuts.

Customers who purchased this product are advised not to eat it and should return it to any Lidl store for a full refund; no receipt is required. For questions about the voluntary recall, customers can contact the Lidl US Customer Care Hotline at (844) 747-5435 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

"The health and safety of our customers is our top priority. Lidl US regrets any inconvenience related to this voluntary recall. Our Quality Assurance Department is constantly working to ensure that all products on our shelves meet the high-quality standards that we would expect when feeding our own families. We are grateful for all our Lidl US customers who choose to shop with us every day," the company said in a statement.

The broader impact of this recall highlights ongoing challenges in food labeling and allergen disclosure within retail environments.
