U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the World Trade Bridge seized more than $365,000 worth of hard narcotics on March 11, according to a Mar. 20 announcement.

The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by border officials to prevent illegal drugs from entering the United States and protect local communities.

Port Director Alberto Flores said, “This significant seizure of cocaine and heroin underscores the dedication and vigilance of our officers at the World Trade Bridge. Our team remains committed to safeguarding our communities by preventing these dangerous narcotics from entering the United States. This accomplishment reflects the hard work and professionalism of our personnel and our ongoing efforts to protect the nation’s borders.”

According to officials, a 50-year-old Mexican man driving a 2020 Kenworth box truck was referred for further inspection at the bridge. After a canine search and nonintrusive inspection system examination, officers found ten packages containing nearly 24 pounds of alleged cocaine and one package with over two pounds of alleged heroin inside the vehicle. The combined street value was estimated at $365,079.

The driver was arrested, and both he and the narcotics were taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection describes itself as America’s largest law enforcement organization with more than 67,000 employees working across land, air, and sea operations.
