Las Cruces man pleads guilty to drug and firearm charges in federal court

A Las Cruces man pleaded guilty on Mar. 23 to federal drug trafficking and firearm offenses after law enforcement recovered methamphetamine, fentanyl, and firearms from his residence.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms by convicted felons.

According to court documents, Enrique Alan Ramirez, 46, was the subject of a search warrant executed by FBI agents and the Metro Narcotics Task Force at his home in Las Cruces on April 3, 2024. During the search, agents found four firearms as well as over 68 grams of methamphetamine and more than 55 grams of fentanyl. Ramirez has a prior felony conviction for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and is legally barred from possessing firearms.

Ramirez pleaded guilty to three charges: possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. At sentencing he faces no less than 15 years and up to life in prison.

The investigation was conducted by the Las Cruces Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from Las Cruces/Doña Ana County Metro Narcotics. Assistant U.S. Attorney Devon Aragon Martinez is prosecuting the case.
