The United States Attorney’s Office announced on March 23 that two individuals were sentenced in federal court for illegal re-entry into the United States after previous deportations. Both cases were prosecuted in the District of Wyoming and resulted in time served sentences, with additional conditions to facilitate deportation.

These prosecutions highlight ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address immigration violations and uphold federal law. The actions taken reflect a broader initiative to ensure public safety and maintain legal processes regarding entry into the country.

Victor Juan Escobar-Figueroa, 38, of Mexico, was sentenced to time served plus up to ten days to allow for deportation following his conviction for illegal re-entry after removal. According to court documents, Escobar-Figueroa was stopped by the Wyoming Highway Patrol on December 4, 2025, near Burns on Interstate 80. Troopers suspected he was in the country illegally and contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which confirmed he had not applied for permission to return after being removed from the U.S. in May 2012. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jesse Naiman prosecuted the case before U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson.

In a separate case, Isaias Hernandez-Zamora, 42, of Tlaxcala, Mexico, received a sentence of time served for illegal re-entry after previous deportation and will be placed under supervised release with conditions barring him from returning illegally again. He was arrested by Teton County Sheriff’s Office on November 18, 2022, for driving under the influence; ICE later determined his unlawful presence following a prior removal order from November 2007. After remaining at large until June 2024 when a complaint was filed against him, Hernandez-Zamora was arrested and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook before Judge Johnson.

The United States Attorney’s Office is responsible for representing the federal government in litigation involving criminal prosecutions as well as civil matters within Wyoming’s district courts. The office participates in several programs aimed at community safety such as Project Safe Childhood—focused on combating technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children—and Operation Take Back America—a nationwide effort targeting illegal immigration and transnational crime organizations.

Victims of federal crimes are supported through dedicated services provided by Victim Witness Coordinators within the office who strive to treat victims with compassion and fairness.
