U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry seized a shipment of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl valued at more than $2.2 million on March 10.

The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by border officials to stop illegal narcotics from entering the United States and impacting communities.

According to the agency, officers referred a 2016 GMC Yukon driven by a 32-year-old U.S. citizen for secondary inspection at the Del Rio International Bridge. After using canine teams and nonintrusive inspection technology, they found packages containing approximately 117 pounds of suspected cocaine, over 23 pounds of suspected heroin, and about 11 pounds of suspected fentanyl hidden in the vehicle. The combined estimated street value is $2,279,351.

Port Director Lilliana Flores said: “This triple threat seizure of three powerful hard narcotics reflects the firm resolve of our officers and their tireless dedication to our border security mission. This load will not reach American streets and will not inflect pain and death on our communities.”

Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver involved in this case and have begun an investigation into the incident.

CBP describes itself as America's frontline law enforcement organization with more than 67,000 personnel responsible for protecting borders on land, air, and sea while enforcing safe travel and trade.
