Ernst names Hands Jewelers as Small Business of the Week

Chair Joni Ernst announced on Mar. 23 that Hands Jewelers has been named the Small Business of the Week by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

The recognition highlights the importance of small businesses in Iowa and their role in supporting local communities. The award is part of an ongoing effort to honor outstanding small businesses across the state.

“Hands Jewelers is a rock-solid example of the enduring strength of Iowa small businesses,” said Chair Ernst. “For more than a century, the Nusser family has demonstrated a diamond standard of excellence in their craftsmanship, innovation, and community engagement, helping generations of Iowans celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. They are a true Iowa City gem.”

Hands Jewelers was established after John Hands moved to Iowa City in 1893 and opened his first jewelry store. The business has since evolved into its current form and will soon enter its fifth generation of family ownership. For over one hundred years, Hands Jewelers has provided high-quality jewelry and personalized service for various occasions such as engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and family traditions.

The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee supports informed decision-making on national fiscal priorities according to its official website.
