Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Republic of the Marshall Islands Foreign Minister Kalani Kaneko on Mar. 27 in Washington, D.C., according to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.
The meeting focused on strengthening ties between the United States and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Both officials discussed recent developments and emphasized their commitment to ongoing cooperation.
Landau and Kaneko highlighted the success of the Pacific Islands Investment Summit held in February. They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the Compact of Free Association, which is a key element in the relationship between both countries.
The Compact of Free Association has long underpinned diplomatic and economic engagement between the United States and Pacific island nations such as the Marshall Islands. The continued dialogue aims to ensure mutual benefits for both parties.
As discussions continue, both sides have indicated a desire to build upon existing agreements and maintain strong bilateral relations.
