The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Mar. 31 that it is proposing a $97,750 civil penalty against Devinaire Industries of Hillsboro, Oregon, for alleged violations of hazardous materials regulations.

According to the FAA, the case involves two shipments of radiopharmaceutical materials transported by air in January 2025. Radiopharmaceuticals are drugs containing radioactive substances and are classified as hazardous materials.

The FAA said Devinaire did not ensure its employees who accepted these shipments were trained in transporting hazardous materials. The agency also alleges that the shipping papers lacked a description of the physical and chemical form of the radioactive material. Additionally, it is alleged that Devinaire failed to keep shipping papers and information provided to pilots on file for the required amount of time.

Devinaire has been given 30 days after receiving the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the agency regarding these allegations.

This proposed penalty highlights ongoing federal efforts to enforce safety standards concerning hazardous material transportation by air.
