RAW FARM issues voluntary recall of cheddar cheese after FDA advisory

RAW FARM announced on Apr. 2 a voluntary recall of certain batches of its cheddar cheese following a request from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company said that no pathogens have been found in RAW FARM-brand cheese products, including those tested by both the FDA and state Health Department officials.

The recall is limited to RAW FARM-brand cheddar cheese, with no other products affected. Consumers are advised not to consume the recalled batches and are encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. The company stated, "No pathogens have been found in RAW FARM-brand cheese products." It also said, "No pathogens have been found in FDA samples collected directly or samples collected by state Health Department officials."

RAW FARM emphasized its disagreement with the epidemiological links cited by federal authorities: "RAW FARM continues to contest the epidemiological links provided by the FDA." Despite this position, it explained, "This Voluntary Recall is being performed under protest," but added that it is being done as "a path forward."

According to RAW FARM, their cheddar cheese is made from milk that is neither pasteurized nor thermalized and complies fully with federal regulations regarding raw milk cheeses.

The FDA has issued an advisory related to E. coli O157:H7 involving raw cheddar cheese but did not specify batch numbers or expiration dates in its notice. Information about this advisory can be found at Outbreak Investigation of E. coli O157:H7: Raw Cheddar Cheese (March 2026) | FDA.

Consumers who have questions or concerns are directed to contact RAW FARM through their website.
