Arrington also addressed efforts to reduce wasteful spending while making investments in defense: "I expect that we continue to do what we’ve done since Republicans have been in control of the House: bring down the wasteful spending and the bloated bureaucracy, but make investments in defense, which is the most important job of the federal government... Every 1% of GDP over the 10-year budget window is $3 trillion in deficit reduction." He added that Republicans aim for a more sustainable fiscal path.
He continued by saying there are challenges from Democrats regarding homeland security funding: "Then we have to pivot today and deal with the recalcitrance of Democrats who are continuing to hold... our homeland security hostage over their ridiculous and dangerous demands... Let’s use budget reconciliation—give us the simple majority in the Senate... especially in this critical time of conflict with Iran."
