Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice
Ronald Patterson, Jr., a resident of Washington, D.C., was sentenced on April 1 in federal court in Boston for his involvement in a series of smash and grab burglaries targeting luxury retail stores across several states. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani sentenced Patterson to 37 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $33,000 in restitution.
Patterson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport stolen goods across state lines and one count of interstate transportation of stolen goods. He was indicted by a federal grand jury along with two co-conspirators in January 2023.
According to the court proceedings, Patterson participated in at least 14 burglaries from Florida to Massachusetts, resulting in the theft of merchandise valued at over $500,000. Surveillance footage from several incidents showed men breaking into closed stores by smashing glass doors before stealing high-end items. Investigators found that Patterson had listed some of the stolen merchandise for sale on his social media account.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Boston Division; and Wrentham Police Chief William R. McGrath. The investigation received assistance from police departments in Woodbury (New York), Pocono Township (Pennsylvania), Leesburg (Virginia), and Tilton Falls (New Jersey). Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin prosecuted the case.
The sentencing highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies across multiple states to address organized retail crime involving interstate activity.
