Mexican national sentenced for unlawful reentry in Eastern District of Oklahoma

Jorge Alberto Mejia Rodriguez, a Mexican national, was sentenced to time served for unlawful reentry into the United States, according to an April 7 announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Rodriguez, also known as Alberto Mejia and Jorge Mejia, had been found in Bryan County, Oklahoma without legal permission after previously being removed from the country. The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address illegal immigration and related offenses.

Investigators said Rodriguez was discovered on November 17, 2025, in the United States without obtaining consent from the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission following removals on September 27, 2018 and August 23, 2014. He pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Reentry of Removed Alien on January 21, 2026.

The investigation involved U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative that aims "to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime," according to officials.

The sentencing hearing was presided over by Senior Judge Ronald A. White in federal district court. Assistant U.S. Attorney Edith A. Singer represented the government during proceedings.
