The United States Secretary of State extended warm wishes to the Government and people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on Apr. 13 in recognition of "Pi Mai Lao," the Lao New Year.
The message marks an acknowledgment of the cultural significance and traditions associated with the holiday, as well as a gesture toward strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"On behalf of the United States, I extend warm wishes to the Government and people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) on the occasion of 'Pi Mai Lao.' As families and communities in Laos and across the world gather to celebrate the New Year, we honor your rich cultural traditions and the spirit of renewal this holiday represents," said the Secretary.
The statement also addressed ongoing cooperation between both nations. "The United States values our growing partnership with Lao PDR and remains committed to working together to promote prosperity, health, and opportunity for all our peoples," said the Secretary.
In closing remarks, best wishes were offered not only to those in Laos but also to Laotian Americans. "May the New Year bring peace, happiness, and good fortune to the people of Laos and to the Laotian American community in the United States," said the Secretary.
This annual greeting reflects continued engagement between Laos and America around shared goals such as economic growth, public health initiatives, and community ties.
