Collin County man sentenced to 15 years for drug trafficking in Texas

A McKinney man has been sentenced on April 14 to 15 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine as part of an investigation by the Homeland Security Task Force, U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced.

Eraldo Orozco-Fernandez, age 34, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant III to 180 months in federal prison.

Court information shows that on March 31, 2023, Orozco-Fernandez was stopped for a traffic violation in McKinney. During the stop, officers found approximately 3.76 kilograms of cocaine, a firearm, and over $2,800 in cash inside his vehicle. A later search of his residence led authorities to another eight kilograms of methamphetamine, about one kilogram of cocaine, and $6,000 in U.S. currency. Orozco-Fernandez admitted he was involved in a conspiracy responsible for distributing these drugs throughout the Eastern District of Texas.

This case is part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative established by Executive Order 14159: Protecting the American People Against Invasion. The task force brings together government agencies to target criminal cartels and transnational organizations operating both within the United States and abroad.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Collin County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case; Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson prosecuted it.
