CAST and the Society for In Vitro Biology announced on Apr. 15 that they will co-host a free webinar focused on the use of artificial intelligence and bioinformatics in in vitro biology. The event, titled "From Code to Culture: How AI and Bioinformatics Are Transforming In Vitro Biology," is scheduled for Thursday, April 30 at noon Eastern Daylight Time.

The session aims to address how new computational tools are helping researchers manage increasingly complex data from genomics, imaging, and high-throughput experiments. This is important as it allows scientists to better analyze cellular processes across plant, animal, and human models.

Dr. Hans Bethge of PhenoLytics GmbH will discuss digital phenotyping and AI-assisted media design for plant tissue culture. He will explain how advanced imaging methods make it possible to measure traits that were previously assessed visually, and introduce ADAM—an open-access platform using machine learning for optimizing culture media. Bethge will also cover early detection of physiological disorders through these technologies.

Matthew Gruner from the University of Nevada, Reno will present work on integrating whole-brain connectome data with single-cell atlases across species such as fruit flies and ants. Using tools like SATURN and SCENIC in Dr. Meet Zandawala’s lab, Gruner connects neuronal networks with gene regulation to study behavior, metabolism, and longevity in arthropods.

The webinar is moderated by Deepika Chauhan, Chair of the SIVB Membership Committee. It targets researchers interested in adopting data-driven approaches within their laboratories.
