Silver Moon, LP, doing business as Loard’s Ice Cream of San Leandro, California, announced on Apr. 16 a voluntary recall of all its retail-sized ice cream products due to missing ingredient labeling. The company said the affected items may contain undeclared milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, wheat, sulfites and food color additives.
The recall is important because people with allergies or sensitivities to these ingredients could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume the products. The ice cream was distributed to Loard’s Ice Cream parlors in Northern California and sold in store-front freezers.
According to the company statement, the recalled items are packaged in either a 32-ounce blue paper cup or a 56-ounce plastic cup labeled under Loard’s Ice Cream. No illnesses related to this issue have been reported so far.
The problem was discovered during an inspection by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which found that retail packaging did not include required ingredient statements or allergen declarations.
Consumers who purchased these products are advised to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund or replacement with updated packaging. For questions about the recall, customers can contact Silver Moon at (415) 547-0520 Monday through Friday from 9AM - 3PM Pacific Time or email hello@silvermoonfoods.com.
