U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has recently used its official social media channels to report on drug seizures, arrests, and the ongoing impact of a government shutdown on its operations.
On April 16, 2026, CBP reported a significant narcotics seizure at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The following day, CBP addressed operational challenges stemming from an ongoing government shutdown. In a tweet dated April 17, 2026, the agency stated: "While @POTUS and @SecMullinDHS have taken strong steps to bring relief to CBP during this shutdown, our crucial operations are still being disrupted by those in Congress only interested in scoring political points. CBP Acting Deputy Commissioner Ron Vitiello breaks it down here. https://t.co/ALT89AgZ6y".
CBP is responsible for securing U.S. borders and facilitating lawful international travel and trade. The San Ysidro Port of Entry is one of the busiest land border crossings between the United States and Mexico.
During previous government shutdowns, CBP has faced similar disruptions to staffing and daily operations but continued core law enforcement activities as required by law.
