Seminole resident pleads guilty to illegal possession of firearm and ammunition

Tommy Joe Logan, a 52-year-old resident of Seminole, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty on Apr. 13 to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The case is significant because it highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address illegal firearm possession by individuals with prior felony convictions. According to the indictment, Logan knowingly possessed a rifle and nine rounds of assorted ammunition on June 2, 2023, after having been previously convicted of an offense punishable by more than one year imprisonment.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Seminole Police Department. The Honorable Gerald L. Jackson, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Logan's plea and ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed. Sentencing will be determined later by a U.S. District Court Judge who will consider federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

Logan remains in custody with the United States Marshals Service while awaiting sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney T. Cameron McEwen represented the government during these proceedings.
