Philadelphia man sentenced to over 11 years for armed carjackings

Legend Hall, 20, of Philadelphia, was sentenced on Apr. 23 to 138 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $7,400 in restitution for his involvement in two armed carjackings. United States District Judge Juan R. Sánchez handed down the sentence following Hall's guilty plea last July.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about violent crime involving firearms in Philadelphia and nearby communities. Prosecutors said that Hall committed the first carjacking in September 2024 on the 300 block of 62nd Street in West Philadelphia with co-defendants Kristian Jackson and Jalaal Claitt. According to public filings, the group approached a victim as he parked his vehicle; after he refused their request for a ride, two men displayed handguns and forced him out before stealing his car, phone, and approximately $500.

A second incident occurred on October 1, 2024. Hall and Claitt ordered pizza from Slices and Moore in Upper Darby; when the delivery driver arrived with the order, they pointed guns at him and took his wallet, phone, keys, proceeds from the shop, and other cash before fleeing with his vehicle.

Co-defendant Jackson pleaded guilty to participating in the West Philadelphia carjacking earlier this year and received an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence. Claitt pleaded guilty to both incidents; sentencing is scheduled for July.

United States Attorney David Metcalf said that these cases were investigated by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force alongside local police departments from both Philadelphia and Upper Darby. Assistant United States Attorneys Robert E. Eckert and Samantha A. Arena are prosecuting.
