Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York | Department of Justice
United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton announced on Apr. 23 that Alejandro Colon and Oscar Olivencia have been charged in a seven-count indictment for their alleged roles in violent crimes connected to the "A-Town" set of the Trinitarios street gang. The charges include racketeering conspiracy, attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, attempted assault with a dangerous weapon, and multiple firearms offenses.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address gang-related violence in New York City neighborhoods. According to authorities, Colon and Olivencia are accused of participating in a shooting outside a Bronx restaurant on February 7, 2023. Two people were wounded during this incident.
“As alleged, Oscar Olivencia and Alejandro Colon were members of the A-Town Trinitarios who shot at three individuals outside a restaurant in the Bronx, seriously injuring two of them,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “Gang violence is a threat to the safety and security of our neighborhoods, and together with our law enforcement partners, the women and men of this Office will continue to work relentlessly to give New Yorkers what they want and deserve: safe neighborhoods free from the terror of gun violence.”
NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch said: “These alleged members of the ‘A-Town’ Trinitarios crew used gun violence to further their illicit operations, shooting two people and putting many more Tremont residents at risk. Today’s indictment underscores the NYPD’s focus on taking down gangs, removing guns, and keeping our communities safe. I thank our NYPD detectives for their hard work on this case and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York for its partnership in holding these criminals accountable.”
U.S. Marshal Ricky J. Patel also commented: “The alleged actions committed by these two brazen defendants endangered our communities and required precision in our law enforcement operations to safely take them off of our streets to face justice. The United States Marshals Service and our law enforcement partners’ unwavering commitment to ensure neighborhoods are safe made that a reality.”
According to information presented by prosecutors, "A-Town" is based in Tremont in the Bronx with ties to narcotics trafficking as well as violent acts against rival gangs since at least 2018.
Both defendants were arrested during coordinated operations—Colon last night and Olivencia this morning—and are scheduled for presentation before U.S. Magistrate Judge Henry J. Ricardo later today.
The charges carry significant penalties if convicted; some counts have maximum sentences up to life imprisonment or mandatory minimums depending on specific firearm offenses involved.
Clayton praised investigative efforts by several agencies including NYPD detectives as well as assistance from other federal partners.
Officials remind that all charges remain allegations until proven otherwise.
