Wetumpka man sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for methamphetamine distribution

Kevin P. Davidson, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama

A Wetumpka, Alabama man was sentenced on April 21 to more than twelve years in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, according to Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson.

The sentencing of Michael David Wilson, age 48, highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address drug-related offenses in the region. The case involved cooperation between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.

Court records show that deputies from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office stopped Wilson’s vehicle on May 30, 2025. During the stop, Wilson became belligerent and was asked to exit his vehicle. A search then uncovered a methamphetamine pipe and more than fourteen grams of methamphetamine.

Wilson pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge on January 13, 2026. Due in part to what authorities described as an extensive criminal history, he faced an elevated advisory sentencing guideline range. This contributed to his sentence of 151 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.

Assistant United States Attorney Christine Levi prosecuted the case.
