Jorge Humberto Olais Solano, a 40-year-old citizen of Mexico, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 29 for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after being removed three times, according to an announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on April 30.
The case is significant as it reflects ongoing efforts to address illegal entry and enforce immigration laws. Olais Solano was reportedly found in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, on March 23 after his last removal through Del Rio, Texas, on April 26, 2017. This prosecution is part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative established by Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People Against Invasion. The task force brings together various government agencies to combat criminal cartels and transnational organizations involved in crimes such as human smuggling and trafficking within and outside U.S. borders.
The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense includes up to twenty years of imprisonment, supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by a judge based on federal statutes and guidelines if there is a finding of guilt. Authorities emphasize that indictments are only allegations at this stage; all individuals charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
