President Donald J. Trump released a message on May 1 marking Loyalty and Law Day, U.S.A., reaffirming the nation's commitment to the rule of law and individual freedoms.
The president said that for 250 years, the rule of law has been central to the United States' success. He emphasized that these principles have guided generations in defending rights and preserving freedoms.
"For 250 glorious years, the rule of law and the blessings of freedom have stood as the bedrock of our Republic and the fount of our greatness. On Loyalty and Law Day, we reaffirm our solemn commitment to defending our unalienable rights and preserving our freedoms," Trump said in his statement.
He reflected on American history since its founding in 1776, highlighting how responsible citizenship has included obeying laws, honoring heritage, protecting the homeland, and safeguarding constitutional values. "These foundational truths—and our steadfast commitment to them—have made our Nation the greatest beacon of freedom and liberty the world has ever known," he said.
Trump stated that his administration is continuing this legacy by restoring justice systems, upholding law and order, securing borders, improving cities' safety, and protecting liberties. "Since I returned to office, we have ended the era of lawlessness and weaponization of our justice system and reclaimed our constitutional heritage," he said.
Looking forward as America celebrates its 250th year since independence, Trump called for renewed resolve to defend constitutional governance: "Today, we celebrate the revolutionary framework of governance enshrined in our Constitution... As we commemorate 250 years of American independence, we renew our resolve to secure a future where the rule of law prevails."
