President Donald J. Trump sent his best wishes on May 2 to those attending the 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, describing the event as "our Nation’s oldest continuously running sporting event and an iconic symbol of American strength, excellence, and grandeur."
The message highlights the significance of the Kentucky Derby in American culture, especially as this year marks 250 years since American independence. The President said that the race is "an enduring testament to tradition, culture, and the triumph of the American spirit." He compared the determination of Thoroughbred horses racing down the track to how "our Nation risen to meet every challenge, defied the odds, and shattered boundaries to reach greatness."
The President also referred to the excitement surrounding what is often called “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” wishing Americans a memorable “run for the roses.”
He concluded by saying: "May this storied competition continue to inspire pride in our shared heritage, and may the best horse win!"
The Kentucky Derby continues its legacy as a major sporting event that brings together people from across America each year.
