The Department of Defense announced today a $23 million award via the Defense Production Act Investment (DPAI) program to Constellium Muscle Shoals LLC in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The award aims to increase capacity in annual aluminum casting production, secure capability to supply U.S. mills, and provide surge capacity to support U.S. security commitments globally. This effort supports the 2024 National Defense Industrial Strategy to continue and expand support for domestic production to enhance supply chain resilience.

Today, the Department of Defense moved to rectify an old injustice and address a painful episode in its history. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III commended the Secretary of the Navy's decision to exonerate 258 Black sailors who were unjustly court-martialed following the explosion at the Port Chicago Naval Magazine in California on July 17, 1944. The blast resulted in the deaths of 320 sailors.
