Serious Climbing Accident in Joshua Tree National Park

News Release: Rangers and emergency personnel responded to a climbing accident in the park on Wednesday. A Minnesota man in his 40s fell approximately 40 feet while climbing in the Quail Springs area of the park. A third party notified 911 who in turn contacted park protection rangers. The individual was evacuated by Riverside County Sheriff’s helicopter and taken to Desert Regional Hospital. The full extent of the man’s injuries is not known at this time.


News Release: MADISON, WIS. - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Michael A. Terrell Jr., 33, Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced on April 2 by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 6 ½ years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute heroin. Terrell pleaded guilty to this charge on Jan. 15, 2019.

Visitor Over the Edge Fatality at South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park

News Release: Grand Canyon, AZ- On Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at approximately 11:30 am, Grand Canyon National Park rangers responded to a call reporting that someone had fallen over the canyon rim east of Yavapai Geology Museum. Responding rangers located the body of a 67 year old male approximately 400 ft below the rim. The park's helicopter and technical rescue team were able to recover the body.
