U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today issued a statement on the employment situation in October. Payroll employment increased by 214,000 and the unemployment rate moved down to 5.8% in October.
“Today’s jobs numbers clearly demonstrate that our economy continues to rebound. To build on this momentum, we must keep up efforts to help our businesses with the tools they need to create jobs and lift incomes for more Americans. The private sector has added 10.6 million jobs over the past 56 months – the longest consecutive stretch of private sector job growth on record. The U.S. has now put more people back to work than all other advanced economies combined. This Administration and the Department of Commerce will continue to do everything we can to strengthen the conditions for economic growth and competitiveness in the United States.”
