Pallone on President-Elect Biden Nominating Michael Regan to Lead the Environmental Protection Agency

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after President-elect Joe Biden named North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Michael Regan as his nominee for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator:

“The EPA is a critical agency for the protection of public health and our planet. President-elect Biden’s nomination of North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Michael Regan to lead the Agency proves he appreciates the gravity of that charge. I am thrilled he chose someone so well-qualified and devoted to honoring its mission of protecting clean air, clean land and clean water in order to protect human health.

“Secretary Regan’s experience in North Carolina has prepared him well to rebuild the EPA into a key partner in our fight to beat back the climate crisis and pursue environmental justice. EPA’s faithful enforcement of the Clean Air Act and other laws is crucial in that effort. The Energy and Commerce Committee stands ready to work closely with the Biden Administration on ensuring safe drinking water for every community, reinstating core environmental protections, and building a clean, equitable future for all. I also look forward to Secretary Regan helping us restore faith in our nation’s scientists and putting behind us the dark days of science and climate denial.

“I extend my congratulations to Secretary Regan on his nomination to serve as EPA Administrator and urge the Senate to move quickly on confirming him.”
