The U.S. Department of Labor is helping in the cleanup efforts of Northeast Arkansas after last month’s tornadoes by employing outreach and enforcement actions.

“OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor. The administrator for OSHA is the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. OSHA's administrator answers to the Secretary of Labor, who is a member of the cabinet of the President of the United States,” the agency said in a news release.

The DOL’s Wage and Hour Division, along with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s response teams are currently in the regions impacted by the Arkansas tornadoes, according to a news release.

The objective of the governmental organizations is to make sure that workers have their rights and making certain that employers know their obligation for paying workers accurately while ensuring their safety and health while at work, according to a news release.

The news release reported that OSHA safeguards the “safety and healthful working conditions” for employees by setting guidelines and administering them through training, outreach, education and assistance.

The organization was established in 1970 by Congress under the Occupational Safety & Health Act and OSHA enforcement actions are currently happening in the northeast portion of the state, according to a news release.
