WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today announced its hearing schedule for the week of June 24, 2013. Beginning on Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Health will continue its review of the Medicare benefit design, while the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will examine the impact of Obamacare on small businesses. Additionally, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will continue its bipartisan review of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will discuss the effects of India’s unfavorable trade practices on U.S. manufacturers, and the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will look at ways to meet the needs of wireless carriers and federal agencies in a time of limited spectrum and financial resources. The committee will close out the week with the Subcommittee on Health exploring the benefits of the Medicare Part B drug program.
On Wednesday, June 26, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing entitled “A 21st Century Medicare: Bipartisan Proposals to Redesign the Program’s Outdated Benefit Structure." The subcommittee will continue to examine challenges with Medicare’s traditional benefit design and hear from policy experts regarding their recommendations for reform. Also on Wednesday, June 26, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing on the “Challenges Facing America’s Businesses Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act." The subcommittee will examine the effect of the president’s health care law on our nation’s businesses. While Americans and business owners alike were promised lower costs under the Affordable Care Act, evidence shows that premiums continue to be on the rise. This hearing continues the subcommittee’s oversight of the implementation of the president’s health care law, which two new Government Accountability Office reports released this week found to be falling behind schedule.as they are posted.
Finally on Wednesday, June 26, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hold a hearing entitled “Overview of the Renewable Fuel Standard: Government Perspectives." The committee has issued a number of bipartisan white papers this year examining a range of emerging issues with the current Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) system and has received an outpouring of responses from interested stakeholders. Next week’s hearing will feature testimony from a panel of government witnesses who will provide an overview of the statute’s implementation.as they are posted.
On Thursday, June 27, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will hold a hearing entitled “A Tangle of Trade Barriers: How India’s Industrial Policy is Hurting U.S. Companies." The United States and India have a strong and growing trade relationship, with India ranking as the United States’ 13th largest trading partner in 2011. But this important trade partnership is being threatened by emerging discriminatory trade practices and other non-tariff barriers such as localization requirements and policies that undermine internationally accepted intellectual property standards. The subcommittee will investigate how India’s unfavorable trade practices are affecting U.S. manufacturers, jobs, and the economy.as they are posted.
Also on Thursday, June 27, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing on “Equipping Carriers and Agencies in the Wireless Era." The subcommittee will hear from government and private sector witnesses as members discuss ways to meet the needs of wireless carriers and federal agencies in a time of limited spectrum and financial resources.as they are posted.
On Friday, June 28, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on “Examining Reforms to Improve the Medicare Part B Drug Program for Seniors." The hearing will explore the Medicare Part B drug program and how it has benefitted millions of Americans.
