Russian forces have begun their attack on Ukraine after weeks of building up forces along its border and ports.

President Joe Biden said in a press release that Russia’s decision to invade the country would be met with counteractions by America and its allies.

"President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering,” he said. “Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States, and its allies, and partners will respond in a united and decisive way.”

Biden held a meeting earlier this morning with the National Security Council in the White House Situation Room “to discuss the unprovoked and unjustified attack on Ukraine.”

According to the news release, President Biden will follow the transgressions closely, and is expected to meet with members of the G7 tomorrow. He will then address the nation regarding what actions they will take against Russia.

“Tomorrow, I will meet with my G7 counterparts in the morning and then speak to the American people to announce the further consequences the United States and our Allies and partners will impose on Russia for this needless act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security,” Biden said.

Biden said that America will coordinate with NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the alliance.

“The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces,” he added.
