Shuster Statement on Former Congressman John Paul Hammerschmidt

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on April 2, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) released the following statement on the passing of John Paul Hammerschmidt, former Arkansas Congressman and former Ranking Member of the Committee (then known as the Committee on Public Works and Transportation):

“Congressman Hammerschmidt was a model legislator, leader, and human being. He belonged in Congress, because he always put people first and knew why he was here. He served on the Transportation Committee and its predecessors for decades, and earned his eventual position as the Committee’s Republican leader. He understood how economically important it was to strengthen the infrastructure and transportation network not only for his constituents back home, but for the entire Nation. He leaves behind a worthy legacy of dedicated, selfless service to the people of Arkansas and our country."
