Scranton, PA - Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Shandell Devone George, a 31-year old man with past addresses in Hazleton and the Bronx, New York.
On Feb. 19, 2019, the Hazleton Police Department investigated the shooting of two men in a bar. Although the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived detectives were able to identify him as George. And - on March 6th - an arrest warrant was issued charging him with Aggravated Assault, Criminal Attempt Homicide and lesser included offenses. Later, one of the victims died from his injuries.
Attempts to find George in Hazleton were unsuccessful and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him. Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers pursued leads in New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Today, at about 3:15 p.m. the fugitive investigation led the task force to a home in the 500 block of Tremont Street in the Bronx, New York where George was arrested without incident. He was turned over to the New York Police Department Central Booking unit to await extradition to Pennsylvania.

Pane stated, “The coordination and cooperation demonstrated by our fugitive task force partners in this case directly led to a dangerous fugitive being taken off the streets. It is our top priority to arrest violent crime fugitives, especially those who have no regard for human life. It is my sincere hope that this fugitive’s arrest can bring some sense of closure to the victim’s family knowing that he will face justice."
The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; and the Scranton Police Department - all of whom participated in this investigation. The task force also received assistance from the Hazleton Police Department.
