Rapid Response: Chairman Issa Calls for Andrew Traver’s Confirmation as ATF Director

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Feb. 2, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

At today’s Oversight Committee hearing on Operation Fast and Furious, Chairman Darrell Issa called for Andrew Traver’s confirmation as the Director of the ATF.

In an exchange with Congresswoman Maloney, Chairman Issa noted that “no one was put up for the first two years of the Obama Administration, and that’s sad that they didn’t have somebody in the queue earlier."

Chairman Issa then said that Andrew Traver “should in fact be given an opportunity to be confirmed."

In response, Rep. Maloney said, “I want to thank the Chairman for supporting the confirmation, and you certainly can help us make that happen."

The ATF has been operating without a permanent director for more than six years.

In a report issued on Tuesday, “Fatally Flawed: Five Years of Gunwalking in Arizona," Ranking Member Cummings recommended that the Senate confirm a permanent director for ATF as soon as possible.

Traver has worked as a special agent with ATF for more than two decades, serving in field offices across the country.
