WASHINGTON - On the news that President Obama has nominated John Koskinen, former non-executive chairman of Freddie Mac, to be the new Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., offered the following statement:

“The first question Mr. Koskinen must answer is whether or not he agrees with President Obama that the IRS targeting Americans for their political beliefs is a ‘phony scandal.’ Anyone who does not share the American people’s outrage about IRS wrongdoing is not qualified to lead this agency that has abused its power."

Current acting commissioner of the IRS Daniel Werfel will testify at a Government Operations Subcommittee hearing on the surging problem of IRS ID theft tomorrow.
