Head of IRS ObamaCare Implementation to Testify Before Oversight Committee

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Oct. 7, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - On Wednesday, October 9th, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., will convene a hearing on the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) implementation and enforcement of ObamaCare.

The hearing will feature testimony from Sarah Hall Ingram, Director of the IRS’s Affordable Care Act Office, and will examine the operational challenges that the IRS faces during the implementation process. Before overseeing ObamaCare implementation for the IRS, Ms. Hall Ingram was the Commissioner of the IRS Tax-Exempt and Government Entities Division.

The IRS is tasked with implementing and enforcing at least 47 new provisions under ObamaCare, including 18 new or higher taxes. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the new taxes will cost Americans at least $1 trillion over the next decade. Moreover, the agency plays a crucial role in establishing the federal data hub, which will transmit personal information from government agencies to insurance exchanges. In July 2013, the Committee held a hearing on the significant security and privacy concerns surrounding the federal data hub, and the lack of safeguards in place to protect individuals’ identities. Witnesses included IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel and Chief Technology Officer Terry Milholland.
