Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s 5 to 4 decision upholding President Donald Trump’s Muslim ban:
“I am deeply disheartened by the Supreme Court’s decision today upholding President Trump’s Muslim ban. The Court decided to disregard President Trump’s discriminatory words and actions-the clear foundation of his terrible policy. To everyone who showed up at airports, who marched, who volunteered their time and resources, we must not lose hope. Your actions forced the Trump Administration to change this policy multiple times and blunted at least some of its negative impacts. This is about the soul of our democracy, and I will keep fighting with you."
