Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent a letter to Chairman Trey Gowdy requesting a subpoena to compel the Director of Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to testify at a deposition regarding actions taken by OPM to comply with a federal court order striking down portions of President Trump’s Executive Orders that sought to attack federal employees.
“Under the court’s order, federal agencies are prohibited from implementing the invalidated provisions of the Executive Orders," Cummings wrote. “To date, the Trump Administration has not filed an appeal or a motion to stay the court's decision. We are not requesting any information about the agency’s litigation strategy-we are asking for basic information about how the Trump Administration is complying with the law."
The Director refused to provide a briefing on these matters in response to a request sent by Cummings on Aug. 31, 2018.
