Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, released the following statement after Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced a lawsuit against JUUL Labs (JUUL) for intentionally targeting youth and creating a vaping epidemic:
“In July 2019, the Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee investigation into the youth vaping epidemic unearthed many of the documents and evidence relied upon by the Massachusetts Attorney General in the lawsuit she filed against JUUL today. The information the Subcommittee exposed about the ‘vaporized’ campaign and JUUL’s pervasive use of social media influencers may now lead to further accountability for those who fueled the youth vaping epidemic. Attorney General Healy’s investigation also uncovered new information-the websites on which JUUL ads were placed-but JUUL has refused to produce that same information to Congress. This is one of several examples of JUUL’s lack of cooperation which we still hope to have as we further investigate the youth vaping epidemic."
