Washington D.C. -On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will hold a hearing, in anticipation of Sunshine Week, on the Constitutional authority of Congress to conduct oversight and the need to shine a light on potential reforms to increase the transparency and accountability of the Executive Branch to Congress.

BACKGROUND

* Congress has the Constitutional authority to legislate and appropriate funds, and the responsibility to investigate in order to exercise these and other authorities effectively and efficiently.

* The Trump Administration’s unprecedented stonewalling in multiple investigations prevents Congress from fulfilling its Constitutional oversight function.

* This hearing will explore reforms to restore the Constitutional balance and safeguard Congressional power to hold the Executive Branch accountable.
