Chairwoman Maloney Issues Statement on President Trump’s Removal of IG Glenn Fine from Pandemic Response Accountability Committee

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on April 7, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued the following statement after President Donald Trump removed Acting Pentagon Inspector General Glenn Fine from the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee:

“President Trump’s actions are a direct insult to the American taxpayers-of all political stripes-who want to make sure that their tax dollars are not squandered on wasteful boondoggles, incompetence, or political favors.

“President Trump has been engaged in an assault against independent Inspectors General since last Friday in order to undermine oversight of his chaotic and deficient response to the coronavirus crisis.

“Today, Congress learned that the President removed the Chair of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee-who was fully supported by Congress and the Inspector General Community.

“President Trump’s actions are a blatant attempt to degrade the independence of Inspectors General who serve as checks against waste, fraud, and abuse."
