Bujanda: FBI was 'focused on capture' of New Mexico alleged bank robber

A New Mexico man recently appeared in federal court regarding nine accusations of bank robbery against him.

According to a March 14 news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico, Evan Lemmon, 28, of Albuquerque, has allegedly robbed nine banks since September 2021. He is still in custody pending his criminal trial, which is not yet scheduled.

“Rob a lot of banks, and our determination to find you becomes that much stronger," Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation Albuquerque Field Office, said. "We worked closely with the Albuquerque Police Department to end this crime spree before someone got hurt. The FBI's time-tested strategy for solving bank robberies still fits like a glove: teams of our special agents and intelligence analysts combing through every lead, working alongside local law enforcement counterparts, focused on the capture and successful prosecution of the offender.”

According to the Department of Justice, Lemmon allegedly committed the crimes by wearing a cap, face covering and a glove. He would reportedly pass a note to the tellers and, after the tellers followed his demands, he would flee on foot to a nearby parked car.

After the ninth robbery, Lemmon's residence was searched by law enforcement, the news release reported. If convicted, Lemmon could serve up to 20 years in prison.
