The U.S. Department of State is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Guatemalan international drug trafficker Eugenio Dario Molina-Lopez.
Molina is reportedly a leader of a transnational criminal organization known as Los Huistas, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in a news release March 18.
"This reward offer complements a Department of Justice indictment against Molina and other co-conspirators," Price said. The reward is offered under the Department of State’s Narcotics Rewards Program, according to the release.
More than 75 transnational criminals and major narcotics traffickers have been brought to justice with the help of the NRP since its inception in 1986, the release said. The State Department has paid more than $130 million in rewards for information leading to arrest and/or conviction, the department said.
The U.S. is working with the Guatemalan government to bring Molina to justice, Price said, according to the release. The drug trafficker is based in Northwest Guatemala in the Huehuetenango region that borders Mexico.
The Department of Treasury also imposed financial sanctions through the Office of Foreign Assets Control on Molina and other individuals associated with Los Huistas, the release said.
