Employees from the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway were honored at the 54th Annual Department of Transportation Secretary’s Awards Ceremony.
According to an April 1 news release, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg recognized employees for exemplary performance in service to the department at the virtual ceremony.
“We are all proud of the accomplishments of these GLS employees and pleased that the Department of Transportation is recognizing their superior performance,” Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Deputy Administrator Craig H. Middlebrook said, according to the news release. “The GLS’ workforce is comprised of professional and dedicated civil servants and these secretarial awards recognizing their exceptional achievements, in both routine and emergency situations, are well-deserved.”
Many different teams were honored for implementing measures that save time and money while also boosting efficiency and fulfilling the goals of the department, according to the release. The vessel inspection team won the Transportation Safety Award, the paint crew team won the Creativity and Innovation Award and the operations service technicians team won the Team Award.
The release reported Carrie Lavigne was awarded a Meritorious Achievement Award, the second highest award that can be bestowed by the secretary, for "exceptionally meritorious service to the department or federal government." Lavigne received the award in recognition of her exceptional performance in "preserving the financial integrity" of the Seaway International Bridge while also "protecting U.S. interests in how the bridge is governed."
Christina Jacot earned the Secretary's Excellence Award for excellent performance in the functioning of the seaway human resources department, according to the release.
