The following press release was published by the House Committee on Homeland Security on June 16, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(WASHINGTON) - Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on tomorrow’s anniversary of the shooting at the Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina:

“This Saturday marks the two year anniversary of the domestic terror attack on Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The nine lives lost that day will forever be etched in the hearts of Americans everywhere. Today should serve as a reminder that the ideology of hate and terror knows no single source. The best way to honor the lives we lost will be to recognize and work to counter the threat of domestic terrorism and the hate that fuels it. "
