Murray on Updated Senate Trumpcare Plan: “Republican Leaders Have Somehow Managed to Take This Mean Legislation and Make It Even Meaner”

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on June 26, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(Washington, D.C.) - Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the following statement on the updated Senate Republican Trumpcare plan, which would allow insurance companies to lock patients out from coverage for 6 months if they fail to maintain continuous coverage:

“Senate Republican leaders have somehow managed to take this mean legislation and make it even meaner. Trumpcare already gives big companies in the health industry a massive tax break on the backs of patients and families who will pay more for their care, and now, Republicans are offering insurance companies even more of a handout by making it harder for people who have gaps in coverage to get insured."
