Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee issued the following statement today on reports that President Trump is considering appointing Andrew Puzder to his Administration. In February, Puzder withdrew his nomination for Secretary of Labor after harsh criticism of his treatment of workers and women.
“People across the country already spoke up and made clear Andrew Puzder’s vision for women and workers is not only completely unacceptable, but harmful and offensive. The last thing workers need in the Trump Administration is another CEO who squeezes profits out of workers and their families. And at a time when so many women are speaking up about sexual harassment and discrimination on the job, empowering someone with a history of objectifying women and reportedly views female employees as ‘the help’ would be shocking, if it wasn’t par for the course under President Trump. Puzder wisely dropped out the last time he was nominated once people started paying more attention to his background and record, and he should know that nothing has changed and he’ll be held just as accountable by Democrats, women, and workers if President Trump tries to bring him into this Administration."
